When “I” try to run my life… Yikes…talk about a man made riot. However… When I “surrender” to Him and let “THY WILL-HIS WILL- BE DONE”…. It is a BEAUTIFUL THANG.... sweet liberty, freedom and Victory come to me...
Self Will = Tension-Bondage= A lot of pressure.
They Will= His Perfect Peace-Freedom = Serenity.
Hey -Ever heard of the 12 STEPS?
They are the steps introduced when one is ready to “recover”-from… really …anything you are hung up on. As I reflect on the 12 steps in “One day at a Time”… I see that they are TOTALLYYYY universal. You just fill in the blank-as to what YOUR hang up is.
I personally came across this blue book w the 12 steps about a decade ago. I had bought it to give away as a gift to a dear friend and thennnnn I realized how much great insight was in it…soooo I kept it. (Of course I eventually bought her a copy as well)...Regardless THIS BOOK has been like a 2nd bible to me. WOW. Not “everything” applies to me – but the majority of the book sure speaks to my heart. I have found that if you follow these 12 steps below you find peace and sanity in your day to day and live in a RICHER state of mental health…. See if the steps below are something you could follow to live better…
Step 1 - We admitted we were powerless over our addiction - (THIS could be food, shopping, gambling, smoking, drinking, eating, etc- you name your addiction) AND that our lives had become unmanageable
Step 2 - Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
Step 3 - Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood God.
(THY WILL BE DONE)
Step 4 - Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
(BE HONEST W YOURSELF)
Step 5 - Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
Step 6 - Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
Step 7 - Humbly asked God to remove our shortcomings.
Step 8 - Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
Step 9 - Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
Step 10 - Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
(Yep – Daily inventory if you want to keep your sanity).
Step 11 - Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood God, praying only for knowledge of God's will for us and the power to carry that out.
Step 12 - Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to other addicts (with our same addiction), and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
