the train stopped and the conductor announced there would be a lengthy
delay due to a large tree falling over the tracks. Amtrak had called a
tree service to come to the tracks and cut up the tree b/c it was too
heavy to move by man. Basically we were stuck on the tracks til the tree
service could cut up and move the tree. (ended up being 3 addl.
hours)... Now... my initial thoughts were "Greattt... we aren't going to
arrive in Chicago now til dark" ... butttt as I heard people complaining
around me I thought ..."Do I want to be "that" person who complains
about a miniscule set back or do I want to EMBRACE this delay?" I looked
over at my husband and smiled ....and He looked at me and said... "more
time to read our books w no interruptions".... and he went right back to
reading his kindle fire. Gotta love it.
My husband's patience has really rubbed off on me over the past 2 years.
He is a man who embraces his delays. I never hear him complain about the
traffic, a slow clerk, a delay of any sorts. It has taught me to do the
same when I feel that ..."what about me monster" rearing its ugly head.
So For today... Look at it like this... If you are being delayed- it is
probably for good reason. Maybe you are being protected from a mishap,
or rerouted to see something you may have missed before ...or... Best of
all... being taught to exercise patience.
Lord knows we could all use a little more of it.
