actress who was passionate about her career and desperately wanted to do the
right thing… She was trying to break free from the constraints that the film
industry had put on her. Unfortunately she couldn’t break free and it ended up
being her destruction. I wish there was More HOPE in the story but every story
doesn’t end w a happy ending… I suppose. THE GOOD NEWS IS this though… There
were valuable nuggets throughout the movie of Acting verses Being
… One in particular was this…..
Fanny didn’t want to entertain people as much as she wanted to
change lives. I could relate to that part of her character… the part in her soul
that wanted to help make people’s lives work better. Isn't that what we ALL want?
We want our families and our friends lives to work out well.... We want each day for the ones we love and ourselves to be a little brighter and a lil' better.... Like Fanny... I don’t want to entertain as much as I desire to be a life changer. Heck... I want to be more like a directorrr… to direct people to the one sustainer.. uh huh… You know who I am talking about –(if you know me at all)…. HE is the life changer... but I sure get kick out of helping Him direct and orchestrate His divineness.
There was this part in the story between Fanny (the actress) and her boss that stuck
with me big time. The 2 were sitting on a stairway in the middle of New York
observing a beggar that was desperately asking a stranger for money…. The boss
says to Fanny… “What do you see?”… pointing to the beggar…. and she replies
…”desperation”and he says “that is the obvious…what else do you see?” He adds….” You walk by that person every single day and you never even see her… If you want to be an artist, a true
actress, YOU HAVE TO SEE THINGS OTHERS DON’T– THEN YOU CAN SHOW It TO THEM-THEN THEY WILL SEE IT-THEN -THEY CAN REMEMBER IT-IT THEY CAN EXPERIENCE HER- THROUGH YOU – WITH YOU”…
His point was she was ACTING the part not BEING the part. Whatever part she was cast at the time. It made me think of my part as a Christ follower.... AM I ACTING OR BEING?
As a CHRIST FOLLOWER We have a similar mission…
WE WANT PEOPLE TO EXPERIENCE HIM – THROUGH US – WITH US…
WE have to see things other DON’T -
so we can show HOPE to people -
so they Can remember it and experience HOPE through us and with us….
Again ACTING verses BEING.
Just think YOUR LIGHT today may be just the one someone needs to see their next turn a little more clearly. Be an illuminator. JUST BE.
